Mid City Crosswind Assist Delete Programmer for 2019-2024 Mercedes Sprinter Vans (907OBDCWD) Installation Guide:

Here are the easy-to-follow instructions for the Mid City Engineering 907OBDCWD programmer. This tool is used to disable the factory Crosswind Assist feature, which can sometimes cause intrusive braking interventions on built-out camper vans or vehicles with high centers of gravity and suspension modifications.

Phase 1: Vehicle Preparation

  1. System Check: Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface. Close all doors and ensure all lights and accessories are turned OFF.
  2. Wake the CAN Network:
    • Without pressing the brake pedal, press the Push to Start button twice (Ignition On, Engine Off).
    • Verify that the instrument cluster warning lights are illuminated.
    • Press the Push to Start button once to turn the ignition back OFF.

Phase 2: Programming Sequence

  1. Insert Programmer: Within 5 seconds of turning the ignition off, plug the 907OBDCWD module into the OBDII port located under the driver-side dashboard.
  2. Initialize the Flash:
    • Immediately press the Push to Start button twice to turn the ignition back ON.
    • Observe the LED indicator inside the programmer case.
    • When the LED turns OFF, the programming is complete. This process typically takes between 15 and 60 seconds.

Phase 3: Finalizing the Process

  1. Remove Module: Once the LED has turned off, turn the ignition OFF and unplug the programmer from the OBDII port.
  2. Cycle the System:
    • Open and close the driver’s door to “reset” the interior CAN bus.
    • Wait at least 30 seconds before starting the engine.

Phase 4: Testing & Verification

  • Check Dashboard: Start the vehicle and verify that there are no unexpected ESP or ABS warning lights. (Note: The Crosswind Assist is now disabled in the background software).
  • Road Test: Drive the vehicle at highway speeds. You should no longer experience the sudden “pulsing” brake interventions previously caused by the Crosswind Assist system during gusty conditions.
  • Storage: Keep the programmer in a safe place. It is VIN-locked to your vehicle. If a dealership performing a software update reenables the feature, you can use this module to disable it again.

Important Safety Warnings

  • Do Not Drive: NEVER start the engine or drive the vehicle while the OBD programmer is plugged into the port.
  • Timing is Critical: If the LED does not turn off or programming fails, restart the process and ensure the 5-second window between “Ignition Off” and “Plug In” is strictly followed.
