How to install external sockets on your van
When it comes to deciding on the best configuration of external sockets for your RV, there are a few crucial elements to consider. From day-to-day uses, alongside looking at what might prohibit installation, are there any internal wires/fixings that would be in the way? We’ll be deep diving into each element, so make sure to read the full article!
Which sockets to choose?
You’ll already have your go-to system in place for how you ‘Van life’, however, it is important at this early stage to do a reassessment. To explore if there are potential areas that could be enhanced, or how altering the external sockets can inadvertently improve your van’s interior layout.

2: What is the best placement on your van?
So, you’ve decided on your external sockets, next is to work out the best placement of them. Do you want to have the shower towards the back of the van, or have it on the side? This is a great time to play around with the layout and scenario of use.
Pro tip: For the perfect installation of external sockets, use the cutting template to measure and align all external sockets – either measure the height to match or go from the baseline.
Make sure to use the cutting template and tape it to the side of your van. This will not only allow you to visibly see the line-up, but it will also show how you might interact with the external sockets. Potentially offering an alternative layout.
3: Cutting process:
So, you’ve decided on product placement and configuration. Next is to start the cutting process. Prep, measure twice, and cut once! Make sure to use the installation instructions for each product and contact an installor if unsure.
Pro tip: File all cut edges for a clean and smooth finish & apply sealant to all flanged mounting screws.
