Thule One-Key System Replacement Lock Cylinder & Key (4 Pack) (450400) Installation:
Thule One Key lock cylinders can easily be removed and inserted into compatible Thule products using the matching key and a change key.
Change keys will have a longer blank shaft and have the product number D1252.
To insert a Thule One Key lock cylinder, follow the directions below.
- Assemble all needed components
- Make sure you have the lock cylinder, matching key, change key, and the Thule product they would like to lock.
- Insert Change Key into Cylinder
- Slide the blank change key into the cylinder. This will align all the tumblers.
- Insert Cylinder and Change Key into Lock Housing
- Without removing the change key, slide the cylinder into the lock housing, lining up the tumblers and rear latch with the slots in the housing.
- Remove the Change Key
- Hold the cylinder in place with one hand and slide out the change key with the other. It should come out without resistance.
- The Lock is Ready to Use
- Once the change key is removed, the lock is fully installed and ready to be locked and unlocked using the matching key.
Removing a Thule One Key lock cylinder requires the cylinder to be in the “unlocked” position. The installation key is not a “master key” and cannot lock or unlock a cylinder.
On Thule cargo carriers, the lock needs to be in a specific position to be removed. The cylinder will need to be fully unlocked, then the cylinder turned with the matching key until it is about halfway between the locked and unlocked positions. Cargo carriers are designed to only release an unlocked key in this position for safety reasons.
Once unlocked, remove the matching key and insert the change key. This will release the tumbler holding it in place. Carefully slide the lock cylinder from the housing with the installation key inside. A new cylinder can then be installed using the steps listed above.
